About the role

Original posting from Tyson & Mendes LLP via Greenhouse

Senior Counsel | Insurance Defense | Pennsylvania | Remote

You’ve Built the Experience. Now Put It to Work Somewhere That Values It.

Tyson & Mendes is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel with 8+ years of insurance defense experience to join our Philadelphia office.

This is an opportunity for a seasoned attorney who wants the best of both worlds: the autonomy to run your cases and make decisions, with access to highly experienced trial attorneys when you want collaboration, strategy, or another perspective.

Our Philadelphia office is led by experienced litigators Maureen Daley and Christopher Kelly, who bring different but complementary approaches to leadership and litigation.

Sophisticated Work. Experienced Leadership.

Our Philadelphia attorneys handle a broad range of complex civil defense matters, including:

General and premises liability

Commercial motor vehicle and trucking litigation

Medical and professional liability

Products liability

Construction litigation

Employment matters

Insurance coverage and bad faith

Commercial litigation

Wrongful death and other high-exposure matters

Senior Counsel attorneys have the opportunity to own their matters, develop strategy, take and defend depositions, work with experts, handle substantive motions and mediations, communicate directly with clients and carriers, and prepare cases for trial.

Learn From Experience — Without Being Micromanaged

Maureen Daley brings more than 25 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts and has built a practice handling sophisticated corporate defense matters, including commercial transportation, premises liability, products liability, construction, and other complex litigation.

Chris Kelly brings decades of experience across general liability, professional liability, construction, trucking, commercial litigation, insurance coverage, and other high-stakes matters.

Together, they offer Senior Counsel something particularly valuable: access to experienced litigators and strategic collaboration without unnecessary layers or micromanagement.

You are trusted to use the judgment you've spent your career developing.

Trial Experience Matters Here

We are particularly interested in attorneys who have had meaningful exposure to trial, whether you've tried cases to verdict, served as second chair, or developed significant pretrial and courtroom experience.

For attorneys who want to continue building their trial credentials, Tyson & Mendes offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced trial lawyers and contribute meaningfully as cases move toward trial.

Remote + Connected

This is a remote position, offering experienced attorneys the flexibility to work where they are most productive while remaining connected to a collaborative Philadelphia team.

The culture is collegial, experienced, and low-ego. Attorneys pitch in, share knowledge, and support one another while still having the independence to manage their own work.

What We're Looking For

8+ years of insurance defense litigation experience

Active Pennsylvania Bar license required

Pennsylvania and New Jersey dual admission strongly preferred

Significant independent case-management experience

Strong discovery, deposition, mediation, and motion practice experience

Trial experience strongly preferred

Experience with general liability, premises liability, trucking/commercial auto, professional liability, construction, medical malpractice, or similar defense matters

Strong client and carrier relationships and communication skills

Prior billing experience

Ability to independently develop strategy and move matters forward

Collaborative, responsive, and willing to be part of a team

Your Experience Should Open Doors.

You've spent years developing your judgment, litigation skills, and reputation. Your next role should give you the opportunity to use them.

At Tyson & Mendes, you'll have autonomy without isolation, flexibility without sacrificing sophisticated work, and access to experienced litigators who understand what it takes to successfully defend complex cases.

Bring your experience. Keep building what's next.
