We are looking for an experienced Flex DFM Engineer to drive world-class manufacturing processes at our component and EMS partners, with a focus on flex/rigid-flex PCBA and critical electrical components. You will sit at the interface of R&D, Supply Chain, and our Manufacturing teams to de-risk builds, raise yields, and ensure suppliers are ready to ramp on time and at quality. This role embeds Oura’s manufacturing standards at the supplier level and accelerates our path through EVT/DVT/PVT to healthy mass production.

This is a hybrid position that requires working onsite at our San Francisco office 2–3 days per week.

What You Will Do:

Execute Design for Manufacturing (DFM) based on PCB supplier fabrication limitations and guide Design Engineers to optimize PCB layouts.

Maintain general specifications, design guidelines, and the design rule roadmap for flexible printed circuits.

Conduct PCB supplier audits and develop additional audit criteria to ensure suppliers meet high quality standards.

Analyze defects in flexible printed circuits and lead improvement activities across the supply chain.

Hold suppliers accountable for quality issues and field escalations through root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Own collaborative development projects with vendors, including the review of design feedback and the implementation of appropriate design improvements.

Qualify vendor manufacturing sites and lines to ensure smooth transitions from NPI to mass production ramp.

What you'll bring

5+ years of hands-on experience in PCB manufacturing or industrializing and managing PCB suppliers.

A proven understanding of the link between flex design rules, industry capability, and the specific processes required to meet various capability levels.

Deep expertise as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in flex substrate fabrication.

Strong knowledge of industry specifications and standards, particularly IPC and JEDEC.

Experience optimizing PCB panel design, balancing material, cost, and capacity.

A strong technical understanding of drilling, etching, masking, plating, lamination, surface coating, and testing.

Solid technical knowledge of the PCB Assembly (PCBA) manufacturing process.

Demonstrated knowledge of the cause-and-effect relationship between manufacturing practices and defect modes in flexible printed circuits.

Proficiency with industry software tools such as Allegro, Valor, NX, and JMP.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical details to stakeholders with varying levels of expertise.

An outgoing, collaborative personality with the ability to work constructively through differences of opinion.
