The Economist

With rigorous reporting, in-depth analysis and global perspective, we explain today’s most important events and seek to discern the trends that will shape tomorrow. At the core of everything we do is our independence, underpinned by our editorial culture and governance structure.

The Role

We are looking for a highly analytical and detail-oriented Trading Analyst to support subscription performance reporting, analysis, and insight generation. Reporting to the Head of Trading, this role plays a key part in ensuring our customer engagement and retention teams have timely, accurate performance data and understand the story behind the numbers.

You will support the development of reports, dashboards, and insights across our global subscription performance - tracking subscriber trends through the entire funnel, from traffic to engagement to retention. You will also contribute to analysis that informs commercial target-setting, performance forecasting, and discount efficiency.

You will work closely with the Customer, Finance, and Data teams to surface opportunities, assess performance risks, and improve reporting tools. It’s an ideal role for someone with strong analytical skills and customer intuition who is eager to work in a high-impact, insight-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Performance Reporting & Analysis

Lead the weekly business review across the Customer team, tracking key engagement, retention and contact centre metrics to inform updates to the broader business

Represent the customer team in weekly trading reviews with Finance and Data, providing a clear view of subscriber risks and opportunities across core trading lines (voluntary churn, payment failure, winback)

Build and maintain accurate, timely performance reports and dashboards across subscriber traffic, engagement and retention

Monitor trends in discount usage across cancellation, pending cancellations and winback; flag opportunities or risks as they emerge

Support monthly business reviews by preparing summaries and insights for senior stakeholders

Contribute to ad-hoc analysis to support business decisions

Data Collaboration & Insight Generation

Work closely with the Head of Trading and Data teams to validate performance data and surface actionable insights

Collaborate with the Customer, Data and Finance teams to understand what’s working - and why

Assist in the development of benchmark metrics and internal performance targets

Assist in defining subscriber lifetime value frameworks to inform short-term vs long-term decisions

Tools & Infrastructure Support

Partner with the Data, Finance, and Customer teams to evolve dashboards and performance tools

Ensure consistency and accuracy across reporting systems, working to improve automation and usability

Experience and Skills

Relevant experience in trading, commercial, analytics, performance reporting - preferably in a subscription, ecommerce, or digital media business

Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills; experience with BI tools like Tableau, Looker, or Power BI

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and distill clear, actionable insights

Highly detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and continuous improvement

Effective communicator—able to explain performance drivers to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, data-driven environment
